The best things in life…

Live life on a budget

The pinch is real

If you haven’t noticed things getting more expensive recently then you’re either under a rock, or you have some seriously good inflation busting tips that we all need to learn from you, so please drop me a note and share the love for a future post. The world is getting expensive, and it’s going to stay that way for a while. I’m not going to give any financial advice, in part because I’m not allowed to due to the day job, and in part because my monthly accounts in Hong Kong would imply that I have plenty to learn on the austerity front as well. But having just spent the past couple of hours catching up with an old friend and laughing so hard I won’t need to do my sit ups today, it did occur to me that there are some activities we can all indulge in on the strictest of budgets. Below is a starter for 10, all additions very welcome as we hunker down and get financially fit…

Laughing

“There is virtue in work and virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.”

Top of the (free) pops

1. Get in touch with old friends, the older the better – you know, the ones who know all your secrets and make you belly laugh

2.Tell the people you love that you do, indeed, love them

3. Express gratitude – thank everyone who makes your day a little easier, simpler or more fun

4. Dig out old board games and play them

5. Go through old playlists, and sing along/dance around while reminiscing

6. Dig out old books and loose yourself

7. Look through old photo albums, especially with loved ones

8. If you’re here in Hong Kong’s miserable weather, curl up indoors and listen to the rain

9. Jump in puddles

10. If you’re somewhere drier and sunnier, find some grass, take off your shoes, and walk barefoot for a while

The best things in life may not always be free,  but often it’s the little things that make the best life.

Life is short. Until next time take care, stay safe and be kind 🙌
